Space Ship: Step 02

In this segment, you will learn one the most often used techniques in 3d modeling - sub-object modeling. You will take a primitive shape and convert it into a collection of "objects", vertices, edges and polygons, which can be manipulated individually. This is how you can make a spaceship, or a dragon, or a car, or anything else from a simple cube. As always, you will learn much more about animation, lighting, cameras and textures, at the same time. Enjoy!

Your learning goals for this project are:

  • know how to convert an object into an editable poly
  • know how to use the quad menu
  • be able to connect, extrude, bevel and inset
  • be able to edit in polygon, edge and vertex mode
  • know how to make a multi-subobject material
  • know how to apply a map to the environment
  • be able to apply a lens effect to a light

In order to get full credit, your project must meet the following requirements

  • The scene must be properly rendered into a video file, as instructed in the tutorial
  • All scene components must be present and working properly
  • Your scene must contain materials and lights, all working correctly.
